About The Interviews

Trappings interview sessions are the first stage of the artwork. At each interview session, a group of women gather to answer the question "what do you wear that makes you feel powerful?" Each person is interviewed one at a time, in front of the other interview session participants. By discussing the daily ritual of dressing, and the relationship of clothing and power, women explore a diverse range of issues.

Each interview session is organized by a session host. Similar to a house party, like for Tupperware or Mary-Kay, the host invites a group of 8-10 friends, family members, colleagues, or neighbors to come to a Trappings party. Each woman is given an invitation and information about the project, asking them to come to the session prepared to respond to the project question. Over 500 women from 15 states have participated in the project.
